Nose Surgery PDF Print
Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, can change nearly any aspect of the nose. Depending on one’s unique desires, rhinoplasty can be used to modify bumps in the nose, the shape of the nose tip, the size of the nostrils, the width of the nose tip or bridge, or the angle between the nose and lips. Rhinoplasty may be purely cosmetic or may be used to treat injuries or breathing disorders as well.

Surgery on the nose is typically done under general anesthesia, though some procedures can be performed with a local anesthetic. Surgeons will typically be able to hide scars by making any necessary incisions from inside the nasal cavities, or along the septum that divides the two nostrils.

After surgery, you may be provided with a special brace to protect the nose while it heals. Most patients find that swelling and bruising begins to fade starting around the forth day after surgery and will be gone before two weeks have passed, though it may take several weeks for irritants such as bleeding noses or painful experiences blowing the nose to fully regress. Most patients can return to work or school within three days of their surgery. In some cases, your surgeon may advise you not to wear glasses or sunglasses for a period of time after the procedure to ensure that your nose can heal properly and without irritation.

Because nose surgery is a personal issue – every patient has uniquely personal issues with their nose – a thorough consultation with Dr. Ziesmann may be helpful in deciding whether or not to pursue this procedure. To schedule an appointment for a consultation, please contact our offices.
